November 10th - Veterans Day Ceremony & Iraq Memorial Meetings

Please join us for the 49th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Veterans Memorial Park, Tampa, FL. Below is the Press Release and attached is an event flyer.

Iraq Veterans Memorial (IVM) volunteers and dedication participants there are two upcoming meetings at the Veterans Park in the pavilion area near the Field of Honor:

Sunday, November 10th at 12:30pm
Wednesday, November 13th at 4:00pm

Please attend at least of one of the meetings. The dedication ceremony on December 14th is quickly approaching and we need to work out the final logistics and ceremony details. 

Attached are flyers for the IVM Golf Tournament, Motorcycle Procession, and Dedication Ceremony. Please hang these flyers in your work areas and share them with your friends and family.

Press Release for Veterans Day November 10, 2013

On Sunday, November 10, 2013 the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County, Inc. will conduct the 49th Annual Veterans Day Tribute to honor all veterans from all wars. This ceremony will take place at Veterans Memorial Park and Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins Jr. Veterans Museum located at 3602 U. S. Highway 301 N. Tampa, FL 1/2 half mile south of the Florida Fairgrounds. The ceremony will begin promptly at 11:00am which is in remembrance of the  time that the Armistice to end the First World War was signed.

The ceremony will begin with the presentation of colors by a joint color guard made up of members from 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion Honor Guard and JROTC Cadets. The National Anthem will be sung by Firefighter and Retired Marine Thurnell (Chip) Shields and the Pledge of Allegiance will be lead by a JROTC Cadet There will be over 100 JROTC Cadets from the area high schools in attendance to perform drill demonstrations and a Pass in Review.

The POW/MIA Missing Man ceremony to remember those who have not yet made it home will be performed by the Scottish American Military Society.  A Wreath Tribute will be presented by the Gold star Wives, Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star Families of America. The playing of TAPS and a rifle salute will be rendered by the Riverview Detachment of the Marine Corps League.

The Master of Ceremonies will be Walt Raysick, President of the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County, Inc.  and the keynote speaker will be Colonel Andre J. Briere USAF, Vice Commander, 6th Air Mobility Wing, MacDill AFB

There will be several dignitaries in attendance.  Board of County Commission Chairman, Ken Hagan will present a Proclamation.  The coveted Edwin Porterfield Award and the Keeping the American Patriotic Sprit Alive Awards will be presented along with a special presentation by the Latin  Soldiers Veterans Motorcycle Association (LSVMA) to the Museum and Parks Committee, Inc.

This ceremony is open to the public and tented seating will be available.  Following the Veterans Day program refreshments will be served by VFW Post 8108 from Riverview.
